Computing with T.Node parallel architecture
The CEC has funded the ESPRIT Supernode project to develop a low cost, high performance, multiprocessor machine. The result of this project is T.Node, a modular, reconfigurable architecture based on INMOS transputers. This book contains course papers of the Eurocourse held at the JRC-Ispra (Italy) in November 1991. An overview is given of various trends in the design of parallel architectures, and especially of the T.Node with its software development environments, new distributed system aspects and new hardware extensions. In a second part, some real case applications in the field of image synthesis, image processing, signal processing, terrain modelling, particle physics simulation and also enhanced parallel and distributed numerical methods on T.Node are reviewed. Finally, a special section is dedicated to neural networks. It is shown how neural nets can be simulated and put to work on a transputer machine with dedicated hardware accelerator.
