In 1989, the French government and Parisian local authorities invited the European Commission to carry out a case study for the Paris air pollution network, for which a re-design study was underway. At the request of the expert group of the Commission on network design, and the Paris air pollution network (AIRPARIF), the JRC Central Laboratory of Air Pollution (CLAP) was assigned to conduct an orientated network design campaign in the Paris conurbation. It was agreed that the campaign would focus on the survey of nitrogen dioxide using the diffusion tube technique; this technique, particularly indicated in urban areas, allows an extended survey to be carried out at relatively low cost. The present report describes a 6 month survey over the entire Paris area, from July 1989 until January 1990, and gives the mapping of NO(2) concentrations measured.
