Abstract

A scaling of the sawtooth repetition time for ohmic discharges is proposed. It has been obtained by reduced magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations simulations, together with a simple profile consistent transport model. The choice of a profile consistent perpendicular thermal diffusion coefficient has made it possible to obtain the scaling of the sawtooth repetition time in terms of the diffusion coefficients and of the safety factor at the edge, q(a), thus generalising the scaling given by Vlad and Bondeson. The scaling is in excellent agreement with the ohmic results of the Frascati tokamak (FT).
