This paper describes the stress analysis of a superconducting coil under the effect of Lorentz forces. The coil consists of an array of CICCs (Cabled-In-Conduit-Conductor). Due to the high number of turns (286) in the coil and the complexity of each conductor (geometry, materials and loads), the analysis has been performed taking advantage of the SUPERELEMENT option recently introduced in the 4.7 ABAQUS version. The results of this analysis are compared with the results obtained using ordinary material homogenisation techniques.
