The starting point of the research presented in this paper was to adapt the Cognitive Simulation Model (COSIMO), originally developed for modelling the operator task when controlling an Auxiliary Feedwater System (AFWS), to an unforseen situation of man-machine interaction. One of the problems of adapting COSIMO is that of the psychological validity of the model. The objective of the research was to analyse the operator's cognitive mechanisms on the basis of the model, with special emphasis on the strategies of observation of information and actions in various situations of problem-solving. The method used for the experimental investigation is presented, together with the preliminary results.
