Anharmonicity in resonant perturbations and its effect on stochasticity extension
An analysis is carried out concerning the effect of the separatrix shape on stochasticity onset and on diffusion in the two wave system, and in particular the role of the separatrix angle at the X-point. By introducing anharmonicity into the expression of the perturbation, this angle may be adjusted and can eventually reach zero. It is shown that, in the latter case, stochasticity appears much sooner and the diffusion coefficient is strongly enhanced. Applications to specific physical problems are discussed.
