Basic technological development of advanced materials processing techniques using vacuum plasma spraying
This report summarises the work performed for the CEC's BRITE project 1203. The aim of the project was to widen the market for vacuum plasma spraying technology beyond aerospace applications. This was to be achieved by quantifying and controlling the processing, and hence the performance, of a wide variety of advanced materials. The report consists of an overview, followed by chapters describing: (i) plasma processing; (ii) adhesion and mechanical properties; (iii) electrical property characterisation; (iv) DC electrochemical investigations; (v) wear behaviour and laser diagnostics. The experimental procedures used, the results obtained and the conclusions drawn from the various investigations are discussed in detail.
