The influence of segregation on hydrogen cracking in structural steels
A model is presented for calculating the safe levels of hydrogen in steel in the absence of segregation and which gives good agreement with results on unsegregated ferrite pearlite steels. Safe hydrogen levels in artificial segregation band (ASB) composition are much higher than in unsegregated ferrite pearlite structures. There are no clear composition effects, but results are more consistent in the normalised condition than in the controlled rolled condition.
