Effect of small crown/flat profile hot-rolled coil on cold rolling practice
This exercise investigated the effect of small/flat profile hot rolled coil on cold rolling practices. The quality of main body of coil tracking was generally satisfactory. There was no statistical evidence for adverse effects of low crown profile, but crowns below 0.01 mm had a significant adverse effect on head end camber. No relationships were established between tracking performance in the 4 stand tandem mill and any operating parameters. A mathematical model of the loaded roll gap was developed but would need further development before use in a predictive mode. It was established that infrared thermoprofile cameras are capable of measuring temperature differences across a coil during cold rolling. Proposals are set out for further work and more detailed monitoring exercises.
