In-plane behaviour of masonry : A literature review
The report reviews the literature of the last twenty years on masonry research, with special emphasis on seismic loads. Attention is focussed on the in-plane behaviour of masonry from a macroscopic point of view. Current test techniques used to identify or validate masonry in-plane models are briefly presented. The behavioural aspects of elasticity, failure criteria and stress-strain relationships are analysed, with particular emphasis on anisotropic effects due to mortar joints. Analytic models of masonry behaviour are also presented.
