Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

As part of the preparatory work to the European Commission's Action Plan for Libraries, King's College London and the University of Crete conducted a project to convert retrospectively the catalogue of the Greek collections held in London and to transfer the records to Greece in machine-readable form. A large number of other issues such as transliteration, standards and the transfer of datafiles were also examined. An important part of the exercise was to explore the problems of project management, particularly as this was the first project of its type and neither library had previously had any significant experience of research projects. Valuable lessons have been learnt about project management which will be of interest to those organisations embarking on cooperative ventures in the European arena.
