Improvements in the determination of trace elements in seawater leading to the certification of Cd, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb and Zn (CRM 403)Funded under: FP2-BCR 4
Analyses of sea water are performed routinely by a number of organisations to monitor the level of contamination of the marine environment by toxic elements, e.g. heavy metals. To improve and control the quality of such determinations, the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) organised a series of intercomparisons and a certification campaign, which produced a reference material (CRM 403) certified for its contents of Cd, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb and Zn. This material was collected in the southern North Sea, carefully prepared (filtered and acidified) and its homogeneity and long term stability verified. This paper presents the certification work performed.
