The process of sizing a large number of connections in a typical steel framework design is tedious, prone to error and time-consuming. The automation of connection design will result in a reduction in the time span between start of contract and preparation of final fabrication drawings. It will also result in standard detail throughout the project leading to a more cost-effective design. The objective of this project has been to develop a computer software package capable of automating the connection design and detailing of a steel framework. The software will run on any standard PC compatible microcomputer and does not require any additional facilities such as maths co-processors. An EGA screen or better is recommended. This report contains the background features pertaining to simple connections, a user manual for the program and design examples.
