Extraction of lessons learned from accident data bases
Accidents registered in FACTS, MHIDAS, SONATA, and EPA databases are compared by type, by country and by gravity index. Many accidents are included in only one or two of the databases, and even where an accident is common to several databases there are differences in the reported data, partly caused by the lack of common agreement on precise definitions of terms such as injury or cause. Environmental damage is often ignored as an important consequence. The 98 accidents in the MARS database are also analysed.
