Abstract

The propagation of heat through a low density fibrous material such as polyester fibreboard is partially dependent on thermal conduction, but is mainly due to radiation and hence is dependent on surface emissivity. This report presents a model to describe very accurately the thermal resistance of fibrous materials as a function of all relevant parameters. Its validity is demonstrated by many experimental results and, finally, a reference material is certified.
