Abstract

Air temperatures, relative humidity, solar irradiation and rain are considered in a comparison of four sites at the southern foot of four mountain ridges around the western Alps. The air temperature decreases regularly, going from the south to the north, but rainfall is greatest at Lake Maggiore and is most violent and most hazardous on the Gulf of Genoa (769 mm at Bolzaneto, 6 October 1970).
