Contributions of the Institute for Remote Sensing Applications to the Global Change research programme
This paper highlights some of the major scientific issues usually associated with the "global change" concept. The role of remote sensing as a source of information to address these issues is reviewed briefly, and the specific involvement of the Institute for Remote Sensing Applications is outlined. An appendix summarises the main elements of the International Geosphere Biosphere research programme, and provides pointers to the literature where further information can be obtained.
