Abstract

The Agricultural Information Systems Unit of the Institute for Remote Sensing Applications is developing a system for the timely forecasting of the production of the EC's most important crops, including sugar-beet. The outputs of the system are yields and crop acreage assessments and qualitative crop state monitoring by area. For the assessment of crop acreages, the use of SPOT and LANDSAT TM satellite imagery has been validated for a number of EC regions. For the yield prediction, agrometeorological models are being developed. For crop state monitoring, NOAA-AVHRR satellite information and surface observed meteorological data will be used.
