Creep strength and ductility of pre-annealed HP40Nb steel
Investigations into the creep properties of the centrifugally cast heat resistant steel HP40Nb have shown that long term pre-annealing at a characteristic service temperature of 1000 C can improve the creep properties, particularly the creep ductility. From a technical viewpoint, it appears desirable to capitalise on this effect by applying to the material a short term high temperature annealing treatment prior to service. Preliminary results have confirmed the beneficial influence of pre-annealing at 1050 C or 1150 C.
