This book presents a statistical evaluation of the performance of European wind turbines. The data are derived from the EUROWIN database, which collects operational data from more than 3500 European wind turbines and wind parks, together with the related technical details. The output generated ranges from technology analysis, through individual and mean production energy production, to failure analysis and economics, including energy pay back time. It is shown that the number of wind turbines installed is increasing rapidly, and in the period 1986-89 the mean size rose from 80 to 160 kW. In the same period, the mean specific energy output of the best machines improved from 1000 to nearly 1600 kWh/m2a.
