Summary reports of the R&D programme : Primary raw materials (1986-89) - Volume IIFunded under: FP1-RAWMAT 3C
The main objectives of the Primary Raw Materials programme were to enhance the competitiveness of the EC mining and metallurgical industries and to reduce vulnerability for minerals, particularly those of critical or strategic interest. The programme comprised three research areas: exploration, mining technology and mineral processing. Summary reports of contracts in each of these areas form the subject of the three volumes in this series. Volume II, Mining Technology, covers topics such as rock fracturing, rock mechanics, support systems, problems associated with depth, robotics, methods of modelling and simulation, and the problems of small size mines. The main results in this sector are concerned with: (i) software packages for modelling, computer aided design and computer aided planning; (ii) safety monitoring; (iii) the study of ore deposits; (iv) mechanical cutting; (v) rock mechanics; (vi) back filling; (vii) automation and robotisation.
