Global monitoring of vegetation : Scientific issues, current achievements and prospects
The rationale for a global terrestrial monitoring system is based on the vital role of vegetation in the Earth's ecosystems, and the sensitivity of these ecosystems to human and climatic impact. The achievements of the last decade in global monitoring are outlined, and the current situation assessed.
