Crystal and molecular structure of Bis[hydrotis(pyrazol-1-yl)borate] actinoid(IV)-dichlorides of thorium, uranium, and neptunium, (HBPz(3))(2)AnCl(2)
The synthesis and the magnetic and spectroscopic properties of the title compounds of uranium and neptunium have been reported previously. In extension of that work, crystal and molecular structure of the orange-brown coloured neptunium compound was investigated. The compound crystallises in the orthorhombic form, as its homologous compound of thorium, while the crystal structure of the uranium compound was reported to be triclinic, probably because of the presence of a CH(2)Cl(2) molecule in the unit cell. The solvent-free compounds of thorium and of uranium starting from the anhydrous tetrachlorides and the potassium salt of the boropyrazolate in tetrahydrofuran were synthesised and their crystal structures were examined. This paper documents the findings of this investigation.
