The use of STARS as an off-line decision support system for risk managementFunded under: JRC-INDHAZ 2C
After an introduction on the use of quantitative safety assessment methods for risk management purposes, a brief outline is given of the STARS project. This project covers the development of an integrated informatic system which consists of knowledge based tools (expert systems) and other modules to support industrial plant safety assessment. It is explained how a computer-based safety assessment could be used as a risk management related decision support system. Finally, the use of STARS modules in this context is discussed, and it is shown that those modules can support off-line monitoring of the risk over the plant life-cycle.
