Abstract

The multidimensional (with dimensionality kept optional) kinetic neutral gas transport code EIRENE is introduced by summarising its most important features, such as the Monte Carlo technique on which its numerical algorithm is based, the communication with external databases for atomic, molecular and surface data and its geometrical capabilities. This code has been applied extensively in the past both to stand-alone neutral gas transport problems and also in a mode allowing the study of the mutual effects of neutral and charged particle transport (the latter in a fluid approximation) by coupling it to 2 dimensional tokamak edge plasma transport models. A few applications are exemplarily discussed. The summary presented is an excerpt from the EIRENE users manual.
