Filling fissures and boreholes in fractured geological structures (granites)
This report presents the results of laboratory and in situ investigations whose purpose was to describe the behaviour of bentonites in fractures models and in boreholes, and to examine the occurrence of erosion phenomena under specific conditions. Compacted and dry bentonites used as sealing materials in investigation boreholes of a crystalline formation show, in contact with groundwater, hydration, swelling and mobility properties with intrusion into hydraulic active fractures. It is intended to characterise the processes of an eventual erosion of such clays after the swelling phase under the effect of an underground water circulation, so as to estimate the longevity of the sealing plug. The presentation of the work carried out in the framework of this project is divided into two parts: laboratory tests and in situ tests.
