Abstract

A computer code, PREDI-N, is presented. This code predicts the crack growth rate of semi-elliptical longitudinal cracks in tubes subjected to temperature cycles. The predictions are based on a Paris crack growth law. Temperatures and stresses are calculated in the uncracked tube wall by a finite element formulation. A combined isotropic-kinematic strain hardening rule is applied together with a generalised plane strain condition in the axial direction of the tube. The stress intensity factors are obtained by means of the weight function technique. The shape functions, related to the semi-elliptical crack, are constructed using a line spring model.
