Co-operation between JRC-ISEI and CSN has developed an informatics package, named DYLAM-TRETA, for the automatic generation of dynamic event trees. The tool takes advantage of the experience in reliability and transient analysis of both institutions, and will be applied firstly to the assessment of protection systems in a realistic PWR plant. This application at plant level requires the set up of methodological aspects which are the subject of this presentation. These include: (1) simulation of the system; (2) identification of the components/systems relevant to the study; (3) probabilistic data collection for the components/systems; (4) establishment of a Design Basis Envelope and definition of the acceptable and unacceptable regions; (5) automatic generation of the Dynamic Event Tree; (6) analysis of the results.
