Abstract

Experimental studies are described which investigate some of the human factors that could influence inspector reliability. The studies are conducted in both laboratory-type conditions and a simulated industrial environment. The facilities and techniques developed for the programme are described and some preliminary results are given. These indicate that significant mistakes can occur in all stages of an inspection which could result in failure to detect or report a defect.
