Abstract

The possibility of using mass spectrometry with an inductive plasma source (ICP-MS) to identify 44 trace elements in welding fumes has been assessed. The method proposed requires the acid solution of the substratum of collection and the subsequent aqueous dilution of the sample solution. The typical limitations and advantages of ICP-MS in analyses of this kind of matrix, compared to conventional spectrometric techniques, are discussed.
