Public health is at serious risk from water pollution. It has become increasingly common to find undesirable chemical pollutants in water and there is a considerable amount of uncertainty about the biological effects and health implications of the consumption of marginally contaminated water. There are many reasons why health authorities, public bodies, technical experts and researchers should be multiplying their efforts to safeguard the water resources. The report examines the categories of pollutants and the new criteria for pharmaco-toxicological and toxico-kinetic studies and biological monitoring. The biological characteristics and interactions between contaminants are also examined.
