The additional certification of magnesium(II) and lithium(I) in the lyophilized serum materials CRM 303 and CRM 304Funded under: FP2-BCR 4
This report is an addition to the main report EUR 10627 which dealt with the certification of total concentration of calcium(II) in two lyophilised serum materials of human origin, ie. CRM 303 and CRM 304. Here, the additional certification of the materials for magnesium(II) and lithium(I) is described. The reference materials have been shown to be homogeneous and stable on storage. The concentrations of magnesium(II) and lithium(I) in reconstituted samples of CRM 303 were certified to be 1.131 mmol/l and 0.523 mmol/l, respectively and of CRM 304 1.85 mmol/l and 0.985 mmol/l, respectively. Methods of analysis used for certification included: (i) isotope dilution - mass spectrometry; (ii) inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry; (iii) atomic absorption spectrometry; (iv) flame emission spectrometry (for lithium(I) only); (v) inductively coupled plasma - atomic emission spectrometry.
