  • Application of new techniques in the winning and support of hard and narrow coal seams, of 50/70 cm to 1 m thick, at inclinations of between 0 and 40

Abstract

The project was presented by A.G.S.A. for seam exploitation under limited conditions by means of an integrated face system exploitation. The prime objective was the improvement of work and safety conditions as well as cost reduction, productivity increase and the exploitation of large coal reserves in deposits of these characteristics. The following developments may be noted: i) winning coal from the work face by means of a rotating bit plough; ii) shields constructed with size and characteristics defined by the conditions in the seams of Bierzo; iii) new technology in the winning of coal, applied in the case of extremely hard seams where the work of conventional ploughs is limited.
