Abstract

The development within the fields of electronics, computer technology, robot technology and welding technology has opened up new possibilities for a flexible low cost automation of welding in the heavy industries. This involves development of: i) fairly simple automation of the welding of sub-components; ii) a large scale shift to mechanical welding processes; iii) application of welding robots, whenever possible. The general purpose of this project was to develop all these aspects, paying particular attention to the problems caused by the primers, and this report summarises the work accomplished during the project period.
