Photovoltaic equipment at the Sophia Antipolis Park
The Symival, in connection with the participants concerned with the development and equipment of the Sophia Antipolis Park, initiated a demonstration project on the feasibility of the use of photovoltaic materials in urban areas. The aims of the operation were: (i) to identify reliable and economically viable photovoltaic applications in an environment such as the Sophia Antipolis Technological Park (e.g. public street lighting and the power supplies for urban equipment and road crossing signals); (ii) to evaluate the service ability for these applications of photovoltaic systems in comparison with conventional solutions and present rules in force (street lighting); (iii) to define maintenance procedures for these materials. The innovatory features were, on the one hand, the use of photovoltaic equipment for applications generally accomplished by equipment connected to the electricity network and, on the other hand, the concept of completely autonomous mobile equipment.
