Environment Institute - Annual report 1991
This report of the Environment Institute summarises the progress accomplished during 1991 (the final year of the four year Specific Research Programme of the Joint Research Centre), in the projects tackled by the Institute. The activities were focused mainly on the areas of environmental chemicals, air pollution, water pollution, chemical waste, and food and drug analysis (included in the Environmental Protection programme) and of safety assessment of nuclear waste disposal in geological formations (part of the Radioactive Waste Management programme). The scientific support provided to different Commission Services is described, with emphasis being given to that provided to the Directorate General XI (Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection) in the field of chemicals, air pollution, water pollution, chemical waste and radioactive environmental monitoring (REM). The above activities are aimed at the implementation of EC directives in the related fields. The work for third parties and the contribution of the Institute to various EUREKA and COST projects are also described briefly. Finally, the report provides essential data concerning the Institute's structure and the human and financial resources.
