Spatial distribution of carbon ions and ion temperature measurements in the plasma edge of TEXTOR using emission spectroscopy
This paper presents experimental data of the plasma edge ion temperature on TEXTOR. The spontaneous radiation emitted in the UV range by three carbon ions allows the determination of their radial position and temperature. The toroidal belt limiter ALT-II strongly affects the poloidal distribution of the impurity concentration of the lower ionisation states. This is illustrated and discussed, together with the problem of thermalisation between impurities and deuterons. The edge T(i) is given for ohmic and NBI-heated plasmas and compared with the central T(i) and with the electron temperature profile. The analogies between Z(eff) and the edge temperatures are also discussed.
