Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Information is a vital asset which, if properly managed, can be used to increase staff skills, make better decisions, open up new areas of business and gain a strategic advantage over competitors. The main objectives of the IMPACT 2 programme (Information Market Policy ACTions) set up by the Council of the European Communities are: (i) to establish an internal information services market; (ii) to reinforce the competitive capability of European suppliers of information services; (iii) to promote the use of advanced information services; (iv) to reinforce European cooperation in order to achieve a Community information policy; (v) to make use of results supplied by other Community programmes, with a view to strengthening the information services market. In this paper the action lines required for these objectives to be achieved are presented, with particular emphasis being placed on the GIS component of the project.
