Abstract

The EC has launched, in the frame of its Shared-Cost Action (SCA) programme 1988-91, a research activity on pool scrubbing. Initially it was intended that ENEA Casaccia should also participate with an experimental programme using the SPARTA test facility, but unfortunately the proposal was withdrawn due to funding problems at ENEA. Pool scrubbing was taken up in the SCA programme in support to the Phebus-FP project, at CEN Cadarache. The Phebus-FP test matrix envisages one experiment, FPT4, including pool scrubbing. SRD performed a comparative study on existing codes and a review of experimental data so far available, and conducted scoping calculations for FTP4. LACE-España (E) carried out eleven tests under pressure conditions in a large scale facility at CIEMAT. The test results will be applied to validate the SPARC and BUSCA codes. The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) carried out pre- and post-test calculations. CIEMAT also considered some tests under Phebus-FP conditions.
