Abstract

This paper concerns the development of a tele-monitoring system for the remote reading of the thermal behaviour of a building system and the control of specific parameters connected to thermal heating devices which maintain the thermal comfort in the rooms. The tele-monitoring system consists of a data acquisition system (DAS) and a project-PC connected to the public telephone network by a modem, both programmed for the acquisition, processing and transmission of the project data. The data are stored in ASCII characters. The possibility of access via computer to the data available in the project-PC at any time, and from any country, and the ability to program the time of the data transmission, makes the procedure economically attractive, reliable and easy to manage. The tele-monitoring system has been installed using commercial devices; it is self-protected and in case of a black-out it will restart automatically without loss of data. The access to the data bank of the project-PC is protected by a password, but private operators could be allowed to access the project-PC to read only; in this case an operating procedure must be agreed with the owner.
