Abstract

In order to check the actual industrial capability to produce significant amounts of Nb(3)Sn superconductor according to the NET-ITER specifications, kilometres of multifilamentary composites have been ordered from two different companies. Extensive tests have been carried out to characterise these products. The following points have been investigated: (i) weight and length of the delivered units; (ii) heat treatment and critical current; (iii) chrome plating; (iv) RRR and a.c. losses measurements. In particular fields, such as RRR and losses, some difficulties have occurred. The consequences are discussed for the different coils of the NET-ITER project.
