Research and technological development for the supply and use of freshwater resourcesFunded under: FP2-MONITOR, FP2-SAST
The background of the project to which this report contributes is an increasingly widespread concern for freshwater adequacy and availability within the European Community. The project takes in the range of hydrologic, geographic, topographic and climatic conditions in the EC; of infrastructures; of industrial, agricultural and domestic use of freshwater; and of general socio-economic development. It explores RTD options and requirements to achieve a sustainable use and supply of freshwater resources in the Community, and considers the various interactions between water-related RTD and developments in other water-related policy areas, encompassing both water quality and quantity issues. This report highlights key findings and issues sought during the overall investigation, with the view to suggest orientations and priorities for future RTD policy. Finally it provides S&T perspectives and highlights potential S&T responses to problems and goals set out in other areas of Community policy.
