The aim of the project was to determine the influence on the sound reduction index of different mounting methods for window panes. An ideal outcome of the investigation would have been that different methods are acceptable and discrepancies could be overcome by corrections. But it appears that the results with different mounting methods vary with different test objects to such an extent that general correction values are not available. A decision for one mounting method is necessary. The parallel running of the revision of ISO 140-3 took this problem into account and, based on the research in this BCR-project, accepted the method of mounting with putty which is not only to be laid down in the International Standard but is also to be the future harmonised European Standard. Additional investigations were performed to classify the putty, so that the method is not restricted to a particular commercial product.
