A new set of guidelines for the assessment of active and passive solar technologies has recently been published by JRC Ispra. The new guidelines contain advice and format sheets for the technical description of projects and for the presentation of results, together with detailed guidance on the selection, installation, and use of instrumentation. They do not include advice on how to assess cost-effectiveness. The document covers each of the main applications of active and passive solar technologies, and permits the performance of projects in different locations and operating conditions to be compared on a common basis.
