Problems in the thermodynamics of the actinides in relation with the back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle
After a brief review of the importance of the actinides in the problematics of nuclear waste disposal, a short description of the difficulties to be overcome in the analysis and the specification of these elements in natural aqueous media is made. Emphasis is placed on problems encountered in evaluating the solubility of actinide oxides and related actinide compounds and on the hydrolytic behaviour of the most environmentally relevant among these elements. Areas in which further progress is needed are outlined.
