Abstract

The Tore Supra data acquisition system was designed to provide continuous data acquisition and processing. With over 30 diagnostic systems connected, the amount of data reaches 15 megabytes per shot and a sophisticated acquisition, storage and retrieval data system is thus needed to meet the requirements of those engaged in plasma physics research. The paper outlines the hardware configuration which comprises NORSK DATA front end and central units and 386-based Intel local acquisition units. A SUN SparcServer 670 MP will act as dataserver for the system from February 1993 while analysis is performed by DIGITAL DecStation 5000/200 and 5000/125 units in addition to PC and MacIntosh computers. Software is also discussed and consists of the INGRES database, a DSERV server and a range of tools that includes GED (data management), GRITS (graphics) and MATLAB (numeric computation).
