Repairing and testing the damaged superconducting coil of Tore Supra
The toroidal field coil of Tore Supra, which was damaged in 1988, has been entirely disassembled. Two double pancakes had to be replaced to restore the superconducting winding. The coil was reassembled using new parts as well as recovery parts, so as to provide a new spare coil able to replace any of the 18 toroidal field coils. The different steps necessary to reassemble the coil are described and the results of the acceptance tests at the nominal current performed in the test facility of CE Saclay are presented. An analysis of the mechanical behaviour of the coil under cycling loads is also included.
