Comparing NbTi and Nb(3)Sn for the design of the NET/ITER outer poloidal field coils
In fully superconducting poloidal and toroidal magnet systems, individual attention must be paid to each coil and its specific requirements. A comparison between a NbTi conductor and a Nb(3)Sn conductor, with respect to the PF6 ITER outer coil, was made in terms of performance, cooling temperature, losses, weights and costs. This paper presents an overview of the comparison, discussing the design features concerned and giving the results of the relevant tests.
