Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This volume presents the principal results of research projects conducted between 1986 and 1989 in the south of France on sheep and goat husbandry systems and the utilisation of resources for this purpose in the Mediterranean zone. Research teams studied existing husbandry systems and their use of space before embarking on more detailed investigations into the use of resources and experimenting with methods of improvement. Each section is illustrated with descriptive and experimental results of husbandry systems in a specific environment. Studies on the utilisation of resources considered land use and management, ways of supplementing rations rich in ligneous fibre, the utilisation of wild and introduced ligneous forage, the planting of additional legumes for forage, and the management of woodland pasture to combine wood production with the supply of forage.
