Biomass for energy and environment, agriculture and industry in Europe - A strategy for the future
An overview of the content and scope of a future biomass programme is presented. The aim of the programme is the implementation of large-scale bio-energy and industrial activities in the long term through integrated regional projects. It is hoped that this will bring about the development and diversification of rural society whilst improving the industrial and socio-economic prospects and the quality of the environment for the whole of Europe. Emerging problems and opportunities that have been considered include: (i) the environment; (ii) agriculture; (iii) socio-economics; (iv) abandoned land; (v) changing energy prices; (vi) cooperation with developed and developing countries.
